Steps to install the APK:
--------------------------

1. On Android 2.x.x, select Settings | Applications and tick "Unknown Sources".


On Android 4.x.x, select Settings | Security and tick "Unknown Sources".


2. Copy the APK onto phone's internal SD card using a Wifi program or directly via the phone's USB connection.


3. Use a file manager like (Astro File Manager, Root Explorer, etc) to browse to location of saved APK.


4. Tap on APK to install.

Could you post the specifics of your modifications? Always good to know what you're installing as root, with all sorts o' privileges. Cheers, mate!

@neuromonkey: No mods, mate! Google Play is released as-is for those who can't get it the "normal way" through their devices.

It had been reported to me in the past that Google Play sometimes play up on certain devices without root access if you're not installing GP directly through Google servers. However, I have been able to get this version of GP to install fine without root. I guess the prerequisite requirement was just a precaution in case it doesn't work...
